12/28/2011 - Las Vegas, NV (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The 19th-ranked UNLV Runnin' Rebels will do battle with the Central Arkansas Bears tonight in Las Vegas.
Three straight losses have dropped Central Arkansas to 5-6 overall, and the team is just 1-5 away from home. Members of the Southland Conference, the Bears were no match for Drake on Wednesday, falling to the Bulldogs in an 87-64 final.
As for UNLV, which will begin the Mountain West Conference portion of its schedule shortly, it enters this game with a stellar 13-2 overall record. New head coach Dave Rice has guided his club to four consecutive victories, including last Friday's 85-68 romp over California. UNLV is 8-0 at the Thomas & Mack Center this season and has won 10 straight games over non-conference opponents at home.
This game marks the first-ever meeting between Central Arkansas and UNLV on the hardwood.
Central Arkansas struggled mightily at the offensive end in the 23-point loss to Drake last time out, shooting 35.8 percent from the field while turning the ball over 14 times. Defensively, the Bears were victimized by 52.4 percent shooting by the Bulldogs, who nailed 10 three-pointers in the affair. Dewan Clayborn represented the lone bright spot for Central Arkansas, as he poured in 23 points off the bench on the strength of 4-of-6 shooting from behind the arc, and 9-of-10 from the foul line. LaQuentin Miles was held in check by Drake, but he is scoring 17.7 ppg this season to go along with 6.0 rpg and 27 steals. The only other double-digit scorer on the roster is Jordan Harks, as he tallies 10.0 ppg while grabbing 6.1 rpg. The Bears are netting 75.5 ppg, a solid output, but they are yielding an unsightly 83.5 ppg.
Chace Stanback is the top scorer for UNLV so far this season, as he is netting 14.5 ppg on the strength of his 45.1 percent accuracy from three-point range. Mike Moser tallies 13.7 ppg for the Rebels while ripping down 11.2 rpg, and Oscar Bellfield rounds out the trio of double-digit scorers with 10.4 ppg. UNLV is generating 78.4 ppg while limiting opponents to 64.5 ppg on 40.6 percent field goal efficiency. The Rebels have been solid on the glass, grabbing 4.7 rpg more than the opposition. Anthony Marshall was the best player for UNLV in the victory over Cal last time out, as he poured in 22 points to go along with nine rebounds. Stanback added 15 points in that affair, while Bellfield contributed 11 points and 11 assists. The Rebels earned a 46-37 rebounding advantage and limited the Golden Bears to 37.7 percent field goal efficiency.

Chiefs' Treen Green out for Sunday's game
How long Trent Green will remain sidelined is unknown. Coach Herm Edwards said Monday he will miss a second straight start Sunday when the Chiefs host the San Francisco 49ers.
A two-time Pro Bowler, Green was going into a feet-first hook slide when he was knocked unconscious by a thunderous, head-snapping hit from Cincinnati's Robert Geathers.
Oddsmakers at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com currently have the Chiefs listed as 7-point favorites versus the 49ers.
The 49ers got beat by Philadelphia 38-24 as a 6.5-point underdog last week. The combined score went OVER the posted over/under total (42.5).
Alex Smith completed 27-of-46 passes for 293 yards with a touchdown. Michael Robinson rushed for 29 yards and a pair of touchdowns on five carries.
The Chiefs lost 9-6 to Denver last week as an 11-point underdog. The combined score was well UNDER the posted over/under total (38).
Larry Johnson rushed for 126 yards on 27 carries. Damon Huard completed 17-of-23 passes for 133 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.

NFL betting action is back! At MySportsbook, all of the pro football odds are posted for the NFC North. Check out how we see the four teams in this cloudy division stacking up this year in the chase for the playoffs! Green Bay Packers (+125) - With QB Aaron Rodgers leading the offense and DC Dom Capers working his magic on defense, the Packers are a real force to be reckoned with.
Virtually nothing changed on this offense for Green Bay from last year to this year, save for the addition of rookie OT Brian Bulaga to the bunch. Expect more huge numbers from the Pack, and a relatively favorable schedule should get them over the hump and into the playoffs once again this season. My NFL Betting Predictions: 11-5, 1st place in NFC North Minnesota Vikings (+130) - There are still too many unknowns about the Vikes this year. There is a huge difference between QB Brett Favre and either Tarvaris Jackson or Sage Rosenfels under center. Plus, is Favre comes back, is he really going to be able to keep his pick total under double digits again? Depth at running back looked like it might have been an issue with RB Chester Taylor fleeing in free agency, but drafting RB Toby Gerhart should pick up the difference. This defense is still suitable, but with a first place schedule, making the playoffs is going to be very tough regardless of whether #4 comes back or not.

Chicago Bears (+350) - The Bears are probably a bit of an overhyped team once again this year. No, we don't think it is plausible for QB Jay Cutler to have as bad of a season as he did last year, and we do think the additions of RB Chester Taylor and DE Julius Peppers are going to help immensely, but there's still something in the water in the Windy City that we aren't so sure about. Maybe Chicago finds its way to .500... but then again, maybe it doesn't. If Favre comes back, Cutler might be the worst quarterback in this division this year.
Detroit Lions (+1500) - The Lions are probably once again going to be the whipping boys for the rest of the teams in the NFC North, but they aren't just going to roll over and die once again. There is some real talent amassing on this team offensively, as the combination of QB Matt Stafford, RB Jahvid Best, WR Calvin Johnson, and TE Brandon Pettigrew should put a bunch of points on the board if the offensive line can even remotely hold up. The questions really lie on defense, where it feels like DT Ndamukong Suh is going to be trying to stop opposing teams all by himself. This year should show some marked improvement in the Motor City.
The Patriots will make NFL betting fans a lot of money this season, get in early and enjoy the cash.
